My immediate sketch was something was simply to draw a pyramid in isometric. Here you could combine with previous image manipulation, particularly the moon / sun like the NS flyer with Geeneus and Spyro (1). I think an object surrounded by empty desert, sandunes, clear sky (maybe with the exception of a palm tree or too, will really hit home the idea of isolation and desolation in death. This image could be quite haunting.

You said to think about Egyptian burial grounds. I think one of the best things about isometric is the way you can communicate a grand scale really easily. I was thinking about a big number of tombstones, that weren't exactly tombstones so to speak. I'm not even sure Egyptians had graveyards, but if they used pieces of Egyptian architecture then it woul hint at it without being explicit. Like these (1 / 2) but given an Egyptian twist. They could outline a shape (an arrow might be contrived).

The grand repetition and altar in the last images brought me onto this idea of ritual. The whole thing about death for the Egyptians was certain rituals and ceremonies that then guaranteed eternal life in death. The cover could be observing one of these ceremonies, perhaps a funeral. Lots of people kneeling facing pyramid > praying?. The view below would almost be away from the pyramid towards the temple where apparently the funerals began (1). You could combine this with the empty desert around from before. Not sure about the big pillar thing either, but really like the idea that other bits of Egyptian architecture could be brought in...
Close up of prayer. Could easily be repeated so everyone is doing the same thing. I mean if you look at the top row of this drawing, everyone is the same (1) or of course this (1)

And finally something a bit different. One of the things I find most interesting about the pyramids is the way they were constructed, they are constructed upwards towards the sky aswell which fits with the title. I think this could make a really nice isometric projection. Things being rolled up ramps, objects hoisted upwards. Stairs / ramps all point upwards anyway. The Only Way Is Up kind of like the idea of The Tower of Babel reaching to the heavens. The thing that could be nice about this is the way that it doesn't explicitly say PYRAMID = EGYPT = EGYPTRIXXX, but more hints at it...

All these ideas are quite busy and complex but I really like the way you reduced the MOSCA cover so hopefully there are a few ideas in here that are onto something.
